ON-PREMISE OR CLOUD?

Why Set Up an On-Premise VPN Server?

You might be looking for a business VPN service to keep your internet connection private for your business. But, should you use a cloud VPN service, or run your own VPN on premise? That is totally based on your specific requirements.

If your office already runs most of its IT services like ERP, HRMS systems, or other business applications on premise, and uses a central data center for all locations' IT, then an on-premise VPN is the way to go. Also, if the majority of your workforce works in the same office, setting up your VPN on-premise could help you reduce latency, compared to a Cloud VPN.

Though an on-premises VPN server might requires upkeep, it gives you complete control over your VPN network.

On-Premise VPN : Frequently Asked Questions

An On-Premise VPN server refers to a VPN server that is deployed and hosted within the organization's own premises or private network infrastructure. It allows for secure remote access to resources within the organization's network, typically through encrypted connections.
To setup an on premise VPN server, you would need a server running Ubuntu 20.04 with a static IP address. Sign up with UTunnel and use the IP to initiate the VPN server deployment process after which you will be provided with a registration token. Then, run a few commands and register your server.
For setting up an on-premise VPN server on a machine at your home or office, you would need it to run a freshly installed Ubuntu 20.04 server and have a static IPv4 address. You would also need to set up some port forwarding. If you need any assistance, you can always contact our support team.
If you set up an on-premise VPN, you are solely responsible for maintaining and managing your server, which is an extra administration cost. Also, an on-premise VPN deployment has limitations for scaling as your company grows in size.
Because you don't have to rely on a third-party cloud provider to run your VPN gateway, an on-premise VPN server gives you complete control over your VPN network. In addition, connecting to an on-premise VPN server rather than a cloud VPN will result in lower latency when accessing resources at your office remotely.
